UCPB, BOC Brief Importers,
Customs Brokers on e2m

new system simplifies customs declaration, payment

With the Port of Manila set to roll out of the new online customs assessment and payment system, UCPB organized recently a briefing on the system’s mechanics that drew an overflow crowd of 200 importers and customs brokers at the bank’s corporate headquarters in Makati City.

Known as Electronic-to-Mobile Customs-Imports and Assessment System or e2m for short, the new system will allow importers and their brokers to send their customs declarations to the Bureau of Customs, receive their payment instructions from the agency, and remit their customs duties through an authorized agent bank online.

Officials of the bank, the Bureau of Customs (BoC) and its service provider Intercommerce Network Services, Inc., walked the attendees through the procedures for enrolling in the new system, submitting their customs declaration and paying their customs duties online.

Being fully automated, e2m will do away with the huge amount of paperwork and tedious re-keying of data required in the current manual preparation, submission and approval of customs documentation. This will speed up the release of cargoes and reduce the cost of importers and brokers.

Under the new system, the importers will simply have to lodge their import entry declaration online, with their broker sending the final assessment via www.intercommerce.com.ph or the websites of the two other service providers. The BoC, in turn, will send the lodgment to the authorized agency bank for matching of the importer’s name against the account name. The bank then debits the account nominated by the client for the corresponding payment and sends a confirmation to the BoC. Upon receipt of the confirmation, the bureau will release the shipment.

UCPB is one of the BOC's authorized agent banks. The bank provides importers and brokers using e2m the added convenience of being able to check their payments through the internet banking facility, UCPB.biz.

UCPB Cites Branches with Best Performing ATMs
Ayala, Batasan, Davao-Magsaysay win top honors

UCPB recognized recently the branches with the best performing ATMs in 2008 in terms of total transactions and number of acquirer transactions. Acquirer transactions are those performed on the bank’s ATMs by non-UCPB cardholders.

Ayala Avenue Branch, under AVP2 Josefina Caraos, recorded the highest number of transactions among onsite ATMs last year with a monthly average of 11,835. Guadalupe Branch came in second followed by SM-Cebu Branch, Olongapo Branch and Marikina Branch.

For offsite ATMs, SM-Davao of Magsaysay Avenue Branch, under AVP1 Gang Gonzales, emerged number one with 8,974 transactions a month. The four others in the honor roll were Robinsons Bacolod of Lacson-Galo Branch, Island City Mall of Tagbilaran Branch, SM-Iloilo of Iznart Branch and N.E. Pacific Mall of Cabanatuan Branch.

Batasan Branch, under M1 Marlette Resurreccion, topped the others in acquirer transactions, posting an average of 4,960 a month. It was followed by Sta. Rosa Branch, Limay Branch, SM Cebu Branch and Lemery Branch.

Available 24/7, ATMs are among the most widely used delivery channels. Last year, the bank’s 220 ATMs handled 12.2 million transactions. UCPB is getting 191 new units to give clients an even better ATM banking experience.

UCPB-Olongapo Branch Goes
the Extra Mile to Help Client

Just when she thought there was no way out of her predicament, Oliva Morales found compassion – and a quick solution – from UCPB-Olongapo Branch.

Oliva’s brother, Henry, needed cash for his medical expenses at the UST Hospital, where he’s undergoing treatment for a kidney ailment. Henry’s too weak to go to his banks, so Oliva went instead. She pleaded with them to be allowed to withdraw money on Henry’s behalf but they all turned her down.

Though disheartened, Oliva nonetheless made one last try. She went to UCPB-Olongapo Branch. There, instead of a quick dismissal, she was warmly welcomed by sales officer Ethel de Leon and ushered before branch manager Ador Lorenzo, who lent an attentive ear.

Ador made a quick check on Henry’s condition, then made the long trip to UST Hospital to arrange his withdrawal.

“My family, especially my mom, is so thankful… Now I know what makes UCPB different from other banks,” Oliva wrote in a thank you letter she sent recently.

UCPB-Chino Roces Clients Donate to Operation Smile
donation sponsors surgery of one cleft child

UCPB-Chino Roces clients Rex and Cynthia Resurreccion’s friendship with branch manager Armie Garcia has stood the test of time. The young couple knew they can always rely on her for sound advice or assistance. That’s why, when they were looking for a charitable institution to donate the cash gifts that their daughter had received on her birthday, they naturally turned to Armie.

Rex’s and Cynthia’s three-year old daughter, Chesca, was born with a hare lip and a cleft palate. While still an infant, she underwent a successful operation to correct these defects.

ded to help another child with the same condition who cannot afford the surgery. When Chesca turned one, they requested their guests to give cash gifts in lieu of toys or clothes so they could give the money to an organization that’s helping cleft children.

Due to their busy schedule, it took them two years to find a suitable recipient. Armie told Rex and Cynthia about Operation Smile Philippines (OSP) and arranged a meeting for them with its officers. On the very day of the meeting, Rex and Cynthia turned over their P20,000 donation to OSP. The donation paid for the surgery of an indigent cleft child, giving that child a chance to live a normal life .

Operation Smile is a volunteer medical service organization that provides free corrective surgery to indigent children with facial deformities. UCPB has been supporting the organization since the 1980s. If you wish to donate to Operation Smile or know someone who does, you may call 811-9739 to 40.
