UCPB Book Drive for Sisters of Mary

UCPB associates have responded overwhelmingly to the call for donation of books and other reading materials for the scholars of Sisters of Mary. In a short span of three months, the UCPB Book Drive for the Sisters of Mary collected 5,715 textbooks, reference books, novels and magazines.

The book donations will be an immense help to the scholars of the Sisters of Mary who are in such dire need of schoolbooks that often three to four of them have to share one textbook.

The Sisters of Mary provides full High School scholarship to over 12,000 indigents from the "poorest of the poor families" in the Philippines. The scholars live in dormitories within the Sisters of Mary's four campuses in Sta. Mesa, Manila, Silang Cavite, Talisay, Cebu and Milangnnila, Cebu. All their basic needs– from food to clothes to books, school supplies and uniforms – are taken cared of by the congregation. But being a non-profit organization that relies solely on donations from foreign and local philanthropists to sustain its operation, the Sisters of Mary could not always provide everything in sufficient quantity.

The success of the UCPB Book Drive for Sisters of Mary underscores the high level of social consciousness of UCPB associates, which is a source of great pride for the institution.

Over the years, UCPB associates have consistently demonstrated a readiness to get involved in the communities where the bank operates. Below are some of the major community undertakings that the bank initiated which owed much of their success to the enthusiastic participation of the associates.

Over the years, UCPB associates have consistently demonstrated a readiness to get involved in the communities where the bank operates. Below are some of the major community undertakings that the bank initiated which owed much of their success to the enthusiastic participation of the associates.

– In 1990, when a strong earthquake struck several provinces in Central and Northern Luzon rendering thousands of people cold, hungry and homeless, the associates quickly organized a relief operations in the hard hit areas of Dagupan, Baguio, La Union and Nueva Viscaya. The relief operations helped over 2,000 families.

– When Mt. Pinatubo erupted in 1995 leaving huge swaths of Central Luzon covered in lahar, the associates mounted relief and medical missions in Pangasinan and Pampanga. More than 1,000 families benefited from these mercy missions.

– In 1997, following armed clashes between government troops and insurgents in North Cotabato and Maguindanao, the associates solicited relief goods and personally distributed these to the over 1,000 families displaced by the fighting.

– In 1998, the associates brought relief goods to some 1,400 coconut farming households in South Cotabato whose farms were stricken drought as a result of the El Nino phenomenon.

– in 1998 and 1999, the associates supported two Adopt_A_Tree campaigns which raised a total of P350,000 in cash for the UCPB Reforestation Program. The UCPB Reforestation Program won the Asian Banking Award for best environmental project by a financial institution in Asia in 2000.

– Also in 1999, the associates mounted another relief operation, this time for 1,000 families affected by heavy floods in Pangasinan, Pampanga, Cainta and Marikina.

– In 2000, the associates conducted relief efforts for more than 30,000 evacuees in Pikit, North Cotabato who fled their homes in the wake of intense fighting between government troops and Moslem rebels.

OUR APOLOGIES
for the intermittent
ATM and electronic banking services

We apologize for the intermittent service that you are experiencing with our ATMs and other electronic banking channels. This is regrettable, but unfortunately unavoidable.

As we had informed you, we switched recently to a new Z/OS mainframe, one of IBM's latest equipment. Technical issues usually crop up during such switchover because the systems will be running on a new environment. This is what is causing the service interruption.

We are addressing these issues. It will, however, take a little more time for our electronic banking systems to fully stabilize in the new environment so it is possible that some service interruption will continue to occur.

We have a dedicated team of information technology specialists continuously fine-tuning our systems, and monitoring them round the clock so that we can respond quickly to any downtime.

We deeply regret the inconvenience you are going through. Again, please accept our apologies.
